and another one bites the dust

LOL -- i keep having to add and take away links on my blog-list....  (And i'm still waiting for you, Keto, to do your duty and join in!  ...Just teasing, of course.  You'll start writing when you're READY.)

I removed the Perfect Health Diet from the list, because i think Paul has gone too far in entangling his ego with his safe starches.  The point he originally made, that things like white rice are non-toxic compared with phytate- and gluten-bearing starches, is the valid one.  Where he's gone from there -- suggesting that 30% of diet from these foods for EVERYBODY is appropriate -- is downright batty.  He's holding on tighter to safe-starch than the good doctor has to food-reward!

I considered adding Dr. Rosedale, but he's a little too extremist for my taste (ditto for Dr. Kruse):  SOME of us need rather more generous amounts of protein than he'd allow.

And, dare i say, websites that feature photos of grinning, slim, white men are starting to get on my nerves?  ;-)  Even drawings of them.....

Dogs, however, are always a plus.  ...I do wish Sam would post a little more often!  Adele has joined the list, too, and she's quite a bit more prolific.  But what's become of Stargazey?!

  2. 200 mg carbs / day which he says is fine, desirable even, is well in the range of tissue damage IMO.

    1. ...and he keeps bringing up the "glucose deficiency" stuff, which i would swear has logically been debunked long ago.

    2. I'm reading Rosedale's summation of the safe starch panel at the AHS. It's very good. I never thought I'd agree with that dude but there you go.

IMO, Jaminet's diet is the worst of both worlds. I too was very excited about the book when I first read it but when I implemented it I quickly realised it was nonsense. It's a high fat high carb diet which is probably the worst combo. Not to mention you'll never get ketoadapted if you're downing all those safe starches. Constant hunger only slightly less bad than on the SAD.

Jaminet is not a clinician. He has a lot of ideas but he has no grounding in reality. A lot of ideas sound perfect in theory but the patient dies.

    3. theoreticians have fun ... but they don't have the broad experience a good clinician does! the latter takes the prize, any day.

even though the Jaminets managed to heal themselves from the SAD diet they used before, obviously, neither had VERY damaged metabolisms....

    4. 200g/day is definitely on the high side for me, im pretty sure I would gain weight easily with that much, mostly because to hit 200g/day I would have to include some form of tuber/rice/sucrose. Its pretty hard to reach that amount on dairy + fruit + veg. ( ignoring banana's )

  3. Everyone has different food allergies. Everyone has varying degrees of insulin , leptin resistance, and myriads of other imbalances. Protein requirements vary. Even individually things may heal and be in flux. Anyone who promotes ONETRUEDIET*tm, is a carnival barking marketeer in my eyes. Even though even they may have a gem or two in their observations. I just try to gleen what I can. ----- oh dear, the blog. :) well, Im struggling right now with several things in my life that are better kept private. It may be the area I live in, but I often feel quite attacked. How to overcome writters block while tip toeing around big personal and health issues is something Im working out. I would never want to bring reproach on a movement that seems to already have so many slanderous, hateful detractors. Ill keep workin' in Tess!

  4. wow! synchronicity...I was just re-reading Stargazey's Nov, 2011 posts on Mitochondria and wondering why I wasn't finding anything posted after those...and then flipped over here to see what was new...there's alot to keep up with! I totally admire you bloggers (blogettes?)and so appreciate the information you share and discussions you are facilitating...hope enough of it will sink in. I'm trying to read up on supplements this week-end. I was real excited about the Perfect Health Diet about 6 months ago when I first started reading it...lots of good information...but, I tried adding the starch/glucose and it triggers my binge eating and increases my hunger, I finally gave up and decided to trust the sources I've read that say my brain & body can be perfectly healthy without potates or rice.

    1. i'm so pleased that we all seem to have formed a "low-carb family" here on the 'net.... if any of us has a question, it seems like somebody else has already looked into it or has experience ready to be consulted! i find it remarkably comfortable and supportive.
