What a pity. Diet RC used to be the best diet cola out there, if one tolerates sucralose well (and most people do). It disappeared from our grocery shelves months ago. Yesterday the "new improved" product showed up at one of the shops i patronize, and i read the label. It has:
- high-fructose corn syrup AND
- aspartame AND
- acesulfame-K AND
- sucralose
Such a brilliant plan! Change a product which has only one substance that a few people object to, and create one that EVERYONE can hate! Well done, RC!
Warren Buffett says he likes to invest in companies that could be run by a ham sandwich, because someday, it might be run by a ham sandwich.
ReplyDeleteHansen's diet soda uses only Splenda. The cola is OK, but the root beer is great--not too sweet. (Full disclosure: I'm a shareholder.)
Hansen's is good, but can only be found at Whole Foods in StL and it's EXPENSIVE. we don't mind Diet Rite (though it wasn't as good as RC) ... but it has no caffeine. :-(
Delete...and i think WB's philosophy is very wise! ;-)
DeleteThey sell Hansen's at Sprouts here (fka Sunflower Market), which has much better prices than Whole Foods. It's more expensive than Coke, but less than Zevia.
ReplyDeleteSadly, Hansen's cola doesn't have caffeine, either.
we have very few grocery choices here. :-( in Houston, HEBs carry Hansen's for a halfway-reasonable price....
Deletemore often, these days, i'm choosing to drink iced coffee, either regular or decaf, with or without sweetener or cream. :-)
I'm in Houston too and I buy Hanson's at the Randall's on Westheimer. Since any aspartame gives me an immediate headache DietRC was my favorite for years. :( I knew something was up when I couldn't find it anymore :(.
ReplyDeleteDiet Hanson's is tasty but very very sweet to me. And occasionally I want something SOMETHING with caffeine!
my daughter lives down at the southern end of the city. i visit her every few months, but it's best in the winter. ;-) we USED to live in Lake Jackson (mosquito-land)....
