one of the best "side effects" of blogging

I first started this blog, because i googled for a blog written by a middle-aged woman with hypothyroidism, who was successfully losing weight and gaining energy and health, and at that time i couldn't find much.  (Many more have joined me since, which i consider a very good thing!)  I figured that this is a niche area in which we can all learn from each other, and with any kind of luck i'd attract others who might contribute their experiences, as well.

What i didn't realize at the time is that blogging is an excellent way to get stuff off my chest, which my friends and relatives obviously don't give a damn about.*  If anyone looks at this page and doesn't find the subject-matter of interest to them, they're perfectly free to skip it -- but i've had a chance to express myself nonetheless.  I've used this space to vent frustrations on a myriad of subjects, and for the most part it's been very helpful to my state of mind.

You see, i believe that people "close to us" only care about us AS IT RELATES TO THEM.  Sure, they say they love us, and i'm sure they're being truthful, but it isn't US they love, it's the wife, the mother, the child, the side-kick, etc.  They have a template of the ROLE, and as long as one doesn't step too far outside it, one is acceptable IN it.  Does anyone value the unique individuals we all are?  I'm forced to conclude -- very damned few.

When I get to the point, in real life, that i'm forced to SAY things that i feel and think, but which others don't want to hear, what i've written above becomes horribly clear.  One may get the oppressive feelings out in the open, but the feedback usually makes one feel even worse than before.  Solutions to the problem are rarely reached, but resentment is created via defensiveness.

Blogging allows a portal for the frustrations to be aired, at least -- most of the time, with little negative response of any importance.  Sure, the trolls may come out and try to make one feel worse than one does already, but their input is rather pathetic than impactful.  Once someone said some rather cutting things when i was feeling REALLY awful, but her point of view didn't take into account some of the personalities in the case, so wasn't germane....

So pardon me for venting -- yet again!  :-)  Mercury has gone retrograde, which is always problematic, and the moon is in the sign of Cancer (my own) and i find that particularly difficult.  Our planned yard and garage renovations are VERY stress-inducing, and have been so for months....  My blog has GOT to be my arena for expressing my frustration, because it is the only venue where it is at all cathartic to do so.

*  NONE of my face-to-face friends ever read my blog -- NONE.  I consider this proof that they really have no interest in ME.  My daughter and husband read it rarely, and not even my niece who has similar physiology to mine is a reader.  I believe this says volumes.  My mother doesn't read it, either -- and OF COURSE not my son.

  1. and if they do not care, why should I care about their baggage and stuff. Just pay the bill and go home, do my own thing, and enjoy the peace. Lite a fire and burn wood, watch the smoke rise and the flames flicker. In a few years I will be gone, and a few after that, all those who remember me will be gone. We can hold desirable circumstance and pleasure as good, or we can hold virtue as good, then when things go askew we know the fault must lie because we did right, but then we must do right. Some of the rats always survive.

    1. we CAN only try to live our lives to satisfy our own sense of rightness.... if we don't, we'll want to kick ourselves endlessly hereafter! trying to please others not only doesn't usually work for US, it usually doesn't work for THEM either!

  2. If had a blog, I wouldn't tell it to my friends and family. It is nice to have some separation between real life and internet socialization. However, I would be glad to meet some of my conversation partners face to face.

    1. I keep the blog rather quiet from most of my friends, but my family knows about it -- after all, they see me writing posts often enough when i'm around them. :-) ...and YES, there are quite a few of my internet friends i'd love to meet!

  3. It is a real treat to read your blog, Tess. Sadly, not many people share my affinity for nutrition research and misc. musings on life. It is a pleasure to find similar minds and be able to exchange our thoughts! :)

  4. Yes!!! THIS... so true about people in real life not reading my blog. Maybe 1-2 do, because they are or were in the same boat.

Hang in there with the yard and garage. Karen P

  5. In all fairness to people who don't read our blogs, if my best friend wrote a technical blog about teaching piano or Christianity, I wouldn't read it. Not because of a lack of interest in her, but in the subject matter.

To my great surprise, I found out my sister-in-law reads my blog. Something she read there (My GERD is Cured, maybe) got her to ditch the wheat and she says she's never felt better.

  6. I'm glad to have you Tess. I don't think you realize how important it is to have other people to talk about our food choices. It's helped me tremendously. I wouldn't want anyone I knew to read my blog because for me it's like a secret club. My wife is suspicious that I'm doing something she doesn't know about on the internet. I have to hide it and pretend I'm posting on Facebook. Imagine you wanted to keep it private and they kept prying.

    2. Oops, sounds like an emotional affair with LCarbing! Some people claim that get "involved" in just order to feel younger and get joy back into their lives. I do feel and look younger on my diet. I hope , Rick, you will not get caught.

  8. Hi Tess

I have great empathy for you and send a big hug and a kiss. Cruising on luxury ocean going liners, restoring an old house, regular trips to New Orleans enjoying some of the best food and live music in the world. Where did it all go wrong ?

    OK I’m getting my coat.

    Kind regards Eddie x

  9. It is unrelated to a diet, but I need an advice. Could you, my internet friends, tell me what I want to know before I start to follow the step-by step instruction "how to create your own website"? I have been knitting footsies for pole dancer who do it as a fitness routine since NewYear. Girls who got it, put pictures of their feet on their Facebook, and their pole-fitness internet friends want my footsies too, and I was asked to create a web-site as a place to make an order and conduct a sale. I feel scared that I wouldn't manage.

    1. Hi, Galina, there are free web platforms like blogger.com or wordpress.com that you can register and use for free. All you need is an account. It's very easy to use as when you first start, there is a step by step tutorial to teach you how to adjust the layout (Wordpress does this. Blogger is less layout - geared and it is really a basic template for blogging.) With Wordpress you can register an unique domain name (ex: galinatextiles.com) but it charges a yearly fee.

    2. Or if you just need a platform, Pinterest is a good place to go. It is very picture - based so you will need to register account, post pictures, and tack on your personal information. OR you can use Facebook and design a separate profile with your contact information and post pictures as needed. I think Facebook will probably be easiest as you can make use of the private message system and tag as necessary.

    3. Thanks a lot, Almond.
Probably, FB option looks the best. Is it a problem to have 2 different FB pages attached to the same email account?
