back in Texas, and being rained on

I slept poorly last night, in a strange bed and a dusty room.  I hadn't eaten TOO poorly on the road, but i'd had three sodas and only one cup of coffee, and a couple of lite beers -- far from my usual intake.  Benedryl and melatonin couldn't help me doze off before 3:30, and i had failed to pack any magnesium.

To travel on a special diet with COMPLETE success requires planning, effort and luck.  Yesterday the luck wasn't completely with me ... and my packing decisions weren't the greatest, either.  Oh well -- next time i'll do better!

Keep your fingers crossed for me, please!  :-)  Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. Whoop! You must be in MY neck o' the woods... (steady drizzle all day today; can't complain ONE TINY BIT about the rain, but I AM getting tired of MUD)
Hang in there & try to have a good weekend Tess!

    1. just a little south of Fort Worth.... yes, the rain faded away sometime last evening, but we're threatened with showers on and off all day. that's fine -- i'll wear my sabots, which are better than shoes for mud.

thanks, i'm sure we'll have a good time anyway -- we usually do! :-)

  4. Ah, rain. And I think of Texas like Phoenix. Not so! :)

Safe travels. I find getting my food template back the fastest way to get my GI track back, then it all falls into place.

    1. :-) Texas is so big and spreads from Gulf Coast to temperate woody hill country to dry arid desert.... part of it IS like Phoenix, but most isn't. here, it's rolling hills with thin woods and a lot of farm land. ...but the last few years they've had some vicious droughts, so even though the mud is difficult, the high water i saw here, and through Arkansas, is a good thing.

  5. I hear ya on the planning...pack mag, melatonin, tylenol (just in case), epic bars and nicks sticks. packaged cheeses also, work for me. I take these in a carryon when flying. But you're home and can easily recover, now...eh? ;)

    1. i'm still in "Cowboy Town," being lazy and self-indulgent after a very cozy night's sleep.... :-) we don't have "utilities" in our little cottage, but i got my (well-insulated) little room toasty-warm with a kerosene heater last night, and my woolen blankets over a featherbed kept me very comfortable.

i'll certainly recover easily -- i've found that a short fast is the quick way to do that! :-) our Saturday dinner here is always steak, and this time i think i'll cook mine myself -- that's how i can make sure it doesn't have some seasoning mixture put on it (grrr), and how it will be seared on the outside and almost raw within.... isn't it heartbreaking when inadequate cooks turn a great piece of meat into an inferior meal?
