everybody needs a hobby

Lori dances, Karen is into photography, Eddie goes fishing, i've got my living-history events....  What do the haters do for fun?  Just get online and stir up arguments?  Where's the actual joy in that?

When people use their free time to cultivate bad feeling, whether it's around the water-cooler or around the blogs, one has to wonder what they're getting out of it.  I suspect it's just emotional stimulation within a life with not enough oomph in it.

Like children who aren't getting enough positive attention to suit them, they act in inappropriate ways to get ANY attention AT ALL.  Children require attention, but when that drive continues too long it becomes pathological -- adults should be able to self-teach and self-amuse.  We should be able to find our niche of like-minded people, friends with similar interests, and venues where debate is fruitful.

Debate is GOOD.  This is how concepts are refined and fine-points clarified.  Forums are designed for this.

Trolling seems to be the urge to debate that hasn't quite reached its majority;  it still has some growing-up to do.  A social milieu is being deliberately disrupted, similar to one gang invading the turf of another.  The points of view cannot constructively cooperate.  There's not a chance in hell of convincing the adversary, so the attempt to do so is a waste of time and energy.  Nevertheless, MUCH energy and time are lavished in this activity.  Do the words "get a life!" leap to mind with others besides myself?  ;-)

  1. A few trolls are just socially clueless. Most of them are just plain old shitheads whose idea of getting a life would be pulling the wings off of flies or stalking someone IRL. Online, they only have as much power as moderators give them.

  4. Devoting much of your free time to tell other people how you hate their diet is definitely pathological. Is not it ironical that Jimmy's haters are more interested in him than most LCarbers?
I am very annoyed by vegetarians, but I don't see any reason to look for any discussions with them on the internet or IRL and stay away unless they attempt to brainwash me or come to the blog I am reading with a new "research" about the danger of eating eggs or with dubious news that Plant Positive made 101-st new Youtube video after making 100. Who would listen to that? Ones I had to listen to one because my opponent in discussion brought the link as the support for his arguments, and I still remember my annoyance from the whole thing and from that horrible rasping voice. If you can't make your point in the listeners-friendly or a readers-friendly form, you are working against your case. If you don't understand such simple thing that presentation matters, how you could be trusted to be a reasonably intelligent person to understand what you are talking about? How Chrles Grashow could expect to be taking seriously if he takes statines?

I agree 100%. Jimmy is a good guy, but shock horror ! he is not perfect ! He does have the honesty and courage to post the good and the bad. Does he get it right all the time ? no, does anyone ? Oh I forgot, Evie and her misfit followers have all the answers. The fact is, none of Evie’s arse lickers have anything better to do than spend their lives posting negative dross.

While Jimmy posts warts and all, Evelyn Kocur has dedicated her miserable and unfulfilled life to slagging off people who have the brains and dedication to get a book published. Talking of books, where is the much awaited ‘Restriction Addiction’ book from the bloated blogger ? pressing the link on her blige blogs states “sorry, the page you were looking for in this blog does not exist” Let’s face it, any publisher who would waste the price of a box of Lindt chocolates publishing her book would be one wave short of a shipwreck.

    2. what I don't understand is, why spend so much time reading blogs and websites espousing an opinion 180 degrees off your own? there aren't enough hours in the day to read all the "helpful" ones!!! :-)

  5. Evelyn is not trolling like Christopher, not trying to force her views on other people , just writes in her blog what she feels like writing . She also provides a place for Charles for his clip and paste activity, which could be considered a public service.

    1. it's not hard to write a bit differently to express a different "character" -- have you ever read anything by Anthony Burgess? every one of his books has a different tone!

    2. Also, I remember in one of comments C. tried to encourage Wooo to criticize Carbsane more , which wouldn't be the thing Evelyn could want, Christopher just needs drama and more confrontation on the web - may be cable got too expensive or something.

    1. One thing for sure Carole did a brilliant job in exposing carbsane as the biggest hypocrite on the blogosphere.

Do you really think the bloated blogger would intimidate us and the many other bloggers out there who have sussed her out, if so your utterly deluded.

    4. Carole did a send-up of the proposed bean talk, which, IIRC, involved a lot of fart humor and a picture like this one: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GPmDIsin9Hc/T0IDhnCgK3I/AAAAAAAAA3Q/hWRx1nbsH-o/s1600/hegassen+3.jpg

  11. I think Carole Sampson ran afoul of Google's policies. That's more likely than Carbsane hiring a lawyer even though she couldn't afford to go to AHS.

  13. I need to get a life. We were watching a documentary the other night about the saturated fat lie/food corporations etc and I'm there yelling there's Taubes....Lustig..Kessler...and my family just couldn't believe how I knew of them and the extent of my interest. I guess I have some form of OCD but this online food/nutrition outlier blogging is literally taking over my life.

Anyway Galina in Russia did you have a dish made from pig trotters in jelly? It is a Polish dish from my childhood but I was thinking it would be very paleo approved..lol..but I used pork hocks and all the sticky gooey gelatine and meat is now setting in fridge. I've never made it before so can't wait until tomorrow to taste.

  14. Yes, Jasmin, we have such a dish, it is named "cholodets". Low part of pig legs and some meat + onion in a shell+ carrot get slowly boiled for hours till bones in the pig feet get all disconnected. I use a pressure cooker or it would take forever. Bay leaf is added at the end. Bones get removed, crashed garlic is added when all get not very hot. Cold cholodets supposed to be completely solid. We eat it with a mustard or a horseradish sauce.
Cooking is still my hobby. I am almost an expert in a native Russian cuisine.
