Helped me get my ideas in order.
A calorie is a unit of energy.
It is NOT a unit of mass (weight), nor of volume (size).
Atoms weigh the same after you extract energy from them, they just become easier to excrete (though they are often recycled).
So while it is a truism that calories in and out are in balance (you can't get out a calorie you didn't put in), the relevance of this to weight, size, or health is not by means of the one-to-one correspondence implied by the promoters of CICO over food quality.Puddleghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00953398103675945541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7221767529759848946.post-20074418378084973032013-08-14T21:27:00.342-05:002013-08-14T21:27:00.342-05:00and it's so much more comfortable not to have ...and it's so much more comfortable not to have to carry it around!tesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04254045589639201707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7221767529759848946.post-77170140701004260842013-08-14T15:54:15.123-05:002013-08-14T15:54:15.123-05:00People write about "water weight" as if ...People write about "water weight" as if it doesn't matter - "you're just losing water weight". But perhaps this weight has health consequences just as fat can. For one thing, it probably makes our insides a cosier place for bacteria to breed in if we're waterlogged.Puddleghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00953398103675945541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7221767529759848946.post-79643622064770776502013-08-13T21:54:12.177-05:002013-08-13T21:54:12.177-05:00"there's no place like home -- there'..."there's no place like home -- there's no place like home -- there's no place like home...." ;-)tesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04254045589639201707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7221767529759848946.post-1065598623137888262013-08-13T16:21:07.565-05:002013-08-13T16:21:07.565-05:00Interesting Tess. As soon as we go high carbohydrate, we need the salt to prime the reuptake process, and also the gut absorption process. For much time the salt was easier to measure, and was used as a surrogate, but now that we can measure glucose, we have forgotten it was just a surrogate.
Good luck on finding that in the literature.
